While it continues to move away from the country, greater than 200 millimeters (mm) of rain should still be expected to pour over Cagayan, Apayao, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur until Saturday evening.
Pagasa warned that this amount of rain could cause severe flooding and landslides,
Meanwhile, around 100 to 200 mm of rain are also expected in Batanes, Isabela, Benguet, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, La Union, and Pangasinan in the same period—which could then cause flooding, especially in areas that are urbanized, low lying, or near rivers; with landslides also likely in moderate to highly susceptible areas.
Fifty to 100 mm rains are then anticipated over Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino with localized flooding and landslides also possible in highly susceptible areas.
“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” Pagasa reminded.
Southwest monsoon
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” is also expected to bring 100 to 200 mm of rain over Zambales, Bataan, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, and Negros Occidental until Saturday evening.
Around 50 to 100 mm of rain are expected in Metro Manila, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Siquijor, and Negros Oriental over the same period. /gsg
