MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended for 90 days the license of the driver of an InDrive-accredited vehicle who was caught on video threatening passengers with a knife over “a petty misunderstanding.”

Based on the initial investigation of the LTO, the driver was seen in the viral video allegedly threatening his passengers with the weapon as he forced them to disembark from the vehicle.

“As posted, the complainant narrated that they were riding an InDrive-accredited vehicle when the driver allegedly forced them to alight and subsequently brandished a knife, threatening to stab them,” the LTO said in a statement on Wednesday.

Acting Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Greg Pua, Jr. emphasized that the driver’s behavior was “unacceptable and needed immediate action.”

“This driver has entered the wrong profession. He is not looking for a job but for trouble and lawsuits,” Pua said in Filipino.

Show-cause order issued

Pua said the LTO issued a show-cause order against the driver and registered owner of the vehicle.

The driver was directed to explain why his license should not be revoked over the incident.

The LTO noted that the driver is facing charges of reckless driving under Section 48 of Republic Act (R.A.) 4136, and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle under Section 27(a) of R.A. 4136.”

Meanwhile, the registered owner of the vehicle was also directed to explain “why she should not be held liable for employing a reckless driver under Paragraph 7, Title IV of DOTC Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.”
